Tourmalated Quartz: Commitment
Tourmalated Quartz is clear quartz that contains long, thin crystals of black tourmaline within the larger quartz crystal. A quartz crystal may have only a few thin tourmaline crystals growing inside it, or it may be filled with them and look quite black and almost opaque. It is intriguing that tourmaline and quartz should combine together in this way, because they have a common unusual characteristic in that they are both piezoelectric materials, that is, they respond to pressure by creating an electric charge.
The vibrations emanating from the crystalline structure of Tourmalated Quartz interact with your personal energy to strengthen Commitment. It strengthens the ability to be committed to someone or something, to make a promise in earnest, a promise you intend to keep. A commitment is a strong intention to work toward a specific goal and carry it through to its completion. It is a promise to put energy into something you consider worthwhile. When you make a commitment, you set a goal and take on the responsibility and obligation of putting as much energy as necessary into meeting that goal.
If you are good at commitment, not only can you make a promise, but you can also keep it. You know when to commit and when to avoid making a commitment. Others see your word as your bond because they know you only commit to things you feel are worthwhile and that you know you can complete. Because you understand commitment, you are also good at recognizing another person's level of commitment in a particular situation.
Any commitment you make is a commitment to yourself because you are always a part of it. When a commitment also affects another person, such as a commitment to a relationship, the commitment is made to the other person as well as to yourself. Committing to someone gives you a strong sense of mutual purpose, and builds a bond which inspires you and propels you forward to fulfill the purpose.
There are two parts to commitment: The first is being able to make a commitment and carry it through. The second part is knowing when it is wise for you to make a commitment and when to avoid making a commitment. You only have a limited amount of energy, and not everything that crosses your path is worthwhile taking on.
If you have trouble with commitment, you stay uninvolved in many areas of life because you don't like to be pinned down. You often hesitate to commit to things because you are not sure whether you can complete them, and this makes you feel isolated and withdrawn. When you do make a promise, you often have trouble keeping it because you misjudge how much energy is required, and you simply get bogged down by the burden of it all.
Expanding the Ability to Commit
To practice making worthwhile commitments, become sympathetic to a cause that you feel is truly beneficial or worthwhile, and volunteer to help with it by putting energy into it in order to make a real contribution to the cause. In choosing a particular cause, evaluate how good a cause you think it is, and how worthwhile or beneficial it would be for you to put energy into it. Look at the genuine need of the cause, what the cause really needs in order to accomplish its goals. Then determine what you can contribute, and how much energy you are willing to put into it. When you volunteer to commit your time and energy to something you know is worthwhile, you also strengthen your ability to make commitments in general.
You can also enhance your ability to commit by becoming more aware of what commitments use your energy efficiently and get good results, and what commitments just waste your energy. Look at the bottom line and evaluate the results you can potentially achieve, and compare that to the cost, in terms of energy, that you would have to put into achieving those results. The wisdom you gain from this will help you develop an awareness of what is worthwhile taking on, and what is merely a waste of your energy. When you know what is the most worthwhile use of your energy, you also know what is worth committing to, and this knowledge helps improve your ability to make stronger commitments.
If you really believe that your energy input can make something beneficial happen, then it is easy to commit to it. To know what you can really make happen, think in specifics about the positive things you could achieve if you knew you could do everything exactly right. This makes you aware of what you really believe you can do, and helps you use your maximum potential to "make a difference". You can only feel optimistic and committed to something if you believe you can make a difference by taking it on.
